Doctors Warn: Stop Doing This to Your Lips Immediately! ‘Lip Cupping’ is Dangerous and Can Cause Permanent Damage

After the Ice Bucket challenge and the Cinnamon challenge, comes the Kylie Jenner Lip challenge.

It is a challenge where teenagers put their lips into a shot glass, small jar or bottle, suck out the air and create a vacuum.

These teenagers hope will get the pouty lips like Kylie Jenner. However, it is not that simple and the results appear to be far from desirable. Some of them end up with soreness, torn skin or bruises.

Doctors Warn. Stop Doing This to Your Lips Immediately. 'Lip Cupping' is Dangerous and Can Cause Permanent Damage

Benjamin Barankin, a Canadian dermatologist says girls are damaging their lips with this challenge.
The bruises, blistering and infection of the lips would need antibiotics to treat them. The bruising can last for 7-10 days and look awful. Also, this hurts the collagen and elastin, the proteins that give your lips firmness and plumpness.
If you have a sensitive skin and often deal with cold sores, you will even more hurt the lip tissue.
The aggressive suction would last up to 24 hours, and then you are left with the consequences.
This trend of plumping your lips is worrying. Besides causing pain, swelling and bruising, it can lead to a potential risk of scarring and lasting disfigurement with recurring attempts.
Also, there is a risk of breaking under pressure with the shot glass if the suction is too powerful. It can cause cuts around the mouth.
